Naramata Farmer's Market returns June 1

We are back and better than ever!  NaramataSlow is excited to bring back the Community Farmer's Market with the kickoff date Wednesday, June 1, 2022.  All the action is at Manitou Park each Wednesday from 4-7 pm.

We have many of your favourite produce and artisan vendors returning plus the food trucks:  Samosa Express, Comfort Kitchen, Taste of Argentina, and Chabendo Gelato.  Just a FEW of the new vendors this year include:  Lotz Provisions (foraged food, donuts, vintage tools), Hammock Hounds (homemade dog treats), Wineland Dressings, Hey Lolly (handcrafted candy, cotton candy), and Citrus & Sage (handmade candles & bath products).  Enjoy a tasting at Bella Homestead (bubbles & farm produce), Creek & Gully Cider, Fox & Archer Wines and Ruby Blues Winery.

Plus, we have a few upgrades and additions to the market area to make your experience even better.  Thanks to the capable couple who helped spiffy up our event Snail trailer!

Enjoy our market?  Want to lend a hand?  The NarmataSlow Farmers Market Committee is in need of the following willing and able volunteers to wo/man:

(1) Traffic Control;
(2) Market Set-up; and or
(3) Market Take Down

If you are available to assist with any of the above we would love to welcome you to the Community Market Team (a super fun group with wine tumblers)! Please email narmataslow@gmail.com or call Jacquie at (250) 490-1077 for more details.

Naramata seeks Dark Sky Designation

Recognizing the importance of our night skies, a NaramataSlow sub-committee is working towards getting an International Dark Sky designation.  We had great feedback from the mobile observatory and telescopes set up in Manitou Park for Earth Day.  A big shout out to Wendel, amateur astronomer who helped us calculate our current dark sky measurement, one piece of information needed in this process.  Stay tuned for more astronomy events as we embark on this Dark Sky journey.  If you are interested in joining this Dark Sky committee, please contact us at naramataslow@gmail.com

  REMINDER:  Reduce Food Waste
with Bella Winery

From April-October there will be bins for food waste at the bottom of the Bella Winery driveway, 4320 Gulch Road.  Instructions as to how to leave your contributions will be provided on site.

Thanks for keeping waste food out of the landfill and recycling it back to Mother Nature!

Balance Vacation Rentals Growth in Naramata

It has become apparent that the impact of short-term vacation rentals has reached a critical juncture in the community of Naramata. It takes people living here (not just vacationing here) to create and support a Community.

We are asking the RDOS to take immediate steps to enact a bylaw to govern short term rentals in Area E that would encompass the following principles:

  • Balance short term housing stock with long term housing stock. If you have a vacation rental on your property, make it mandatory to have long term accommodation (occupied by home owner or long term renter) on your property as well. Look to Tofino, Summerland and Revelstoke for insight - these communities have recently used a similar approach to provide balance in their communities, allowing for economic opportunity for the property owner and ensuring that both the vacation rental and the resident owner/long term rental are adhering to good neighbour living.

If you agree, we invite you to sign our petition in support here.

Centre Beach Celebration Update

We haven't forgotten!  NaramataSlow is SLOWLY working on plans to recognize the amazing efforts of our community in saving Centre Beach.  We are currently refining the design of an art piece commemorating donor contributions.  Stay tuned for finalized plans celebrating our beautiful beach.
