Seed Dating a Great Match

The Okanagan Seed Savers hosted a "seedy" event, Seed Dating, March 1 at the Naramata Library.  Two gardening gurus were on hand to answer questions about garden needs and twelve participants shared their knowledge of long time seed saving.  It was a great exchange of information and motivation.  With food sovereignty and climate change issues, we look forward to more Seed Saver events in the future.
Speaking of growing, how about joining the challenge?  The Okanagan Seed Savers is launching their 2022 Seed Trial, this year:  a Protein Challenge.  Five different varieties of pole beans will be grown to learn which grow best in our Okanagan climate.  For more information about seed saving or the 2022 Seed Trial, contact okanaganseedsavers@gmail.com
Interested in starting or improving your own garden?  There are plenty of knowledgeable neighbors and local resources around.  The Naramata Library is now set up for seed saving, seed exchange, or seed lending, just in time to get your garden growing.  And, check out Okanagan Seed Savers for a list of what seeds to start in March.  Happy growing!

Friends, neighbors, and kids!  It's not too late to participate in the RDOS Electoral Area E Official Community Plan review.  We are now ready for Round 2!  Have your say in your community's future.  Click here to take part in the survey

Naramata Permaculture Farm Garden wins National Award

Greener Greenspaces is a recognition program for sites from across Canada that exemplify greener greenspace stewardship. The aim of the program is to showcase examples of ecologically-focused land care as a means to inspire others and to further the movement across Canada.
The Permaculture Farm Garden in Naramata, BC, is a public space and community garden focused on observing and learning from nature while growing healthy food.  Different events during the year such as art exhibits, community harvests, and guided tours, animate the greenspace and create social connections in the community. The garden is a David Suzuki Butterflyway site, which recognizes and supports the garden’s efforts to provide habitat and food for pollinators and other species.  Congratulations to Catalina Polloni, Tomas Orayzun, and the twenty volunteers who actively collaborate on the farm garden.
